As a follow-up to the May 2013 Festival of Faiths, Sacred Silence: Pathway to Compassion, the Center for Interfaith Relations will present a series of presentations and discussions which address issues that concern wealth disparities, economic and social justice, energy independence and environmental sustainability.

The Rev. Dr. Shanta Shanta D. Premawardhana, President of the Seminary Consortium for Urban Pastoral Education (SCUPE) and the Rev. Dr. Elizabeth L. Hinson Hasty, Associate Professor of Theology and Chair of the Theology Department at Bellarmine University, are the keynote speakers on November 14. Dr. Premawardhana will discuss “Greed as Violence: The Role of the Global Church in Addressing the Enduring Spiritual Crisis of our Time”, and Dr. Hinson Hasty will discuss “The Problem of Wealth.”

Both programs are presented in partnership with Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary’s Edwards-Presler Lectures on Peace, Justice and Mission and will take place at the seminary’s Caldwell Chapel.

Also on November 14, an Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, which is a Festival of Faiths mainstay, will take place at the Cathedral of the Assumption in downtown Louisville.

On November 15, the Center for Interfaith Relations, in partnership with Bellarmine University Campus Ministry, will present “The Energy Independence Boom: A Call for Religious Leadership.” the event will draw upon the expertise of three highly qualified and innovative regional leaders to help us explore our faith communities’ response to the development of a new generation of fossil fuel extraction infrastructures that can threaten the health of all the life systems – human and Earth – in their path. Samuel Avery, owner of Avery and Sun Solar Energy Solutions, author and longtime social activist, Paul D. Simmons, Ph.D., Clinical Professor of Medical Ethics at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, and Sarah Lynn Cunningham, licensed environmental engineer and state-certified environmental educator, are the featured panelists for this program.
