The Center for Interfaith Relations (CIR) takes environmental stewardship seriously. Each year’s Festival of Faiths addresses environmental issues, such as mountaintop removal, air quality, clean water and sustainable land management.

For its efforts, and with great honor, the CIR received a 2013 Kippie Award from Kentucky Interfaith Power and Light. The award is given to organizations that are active in promoting the creation, care and environmental sustainability being undertaken by Kentucky’s faith-based communities.

CIR Executive Director Kathleen Lyons accepted the award on the Center’s behalf at the Kentucky Interfaith Power and Light’s annual awards dinner, which was held May 9 at Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Louisville. Bellarmine University and Bridgeport Christian Church were the other organizations to receive the 2013 Kippie Award.

In her acceptance remarks, Lyons took the opportunity to share some thoughts about Sacred Silence and the May 2013 Festival of Faiths.
