Hundreds packed inside Louisville’s Cathedral of Assumption for an interfaith gathering, converging faiths and leaving politics at the door. “Broken Hearts, Anxious Minds, a Commitment to a Healthy Community” served as a moment for pause, as Louisville grapples with continued gun violence.
As of Friday, April 28, the city is at 57 homicides, which is eight more deaths than April of 2022. The number of tragedies adds to the grim list of reasons the Center of Interfaith Relations is uniting Louisville in faith. Mayor Craig Greenberg believes it all starts by mending the city’s broken heart.
A man who died after being stabbed on West Market Street in Louisville on Friday is just the latest murder this month in the city. Less than three weeks ago, gun violence claimed the lives of five people in a mass shooting at Old National Bank downtown. Days later, another two people were shot and killed at Chickasaw Park, leaving families and neighborhoods torn.
Meanwhile, in neighboring Kentucky, the Archbishop of Louisville Sheldon Fabre will join other religious and civic leaders on Friday, 28 April at the Cathedral of the Assumption, for a gathering entitled “Broken Hearts, Anxious Minds, a Commitment to a Healthy Community”.
