“Sawubona,” the Rev. Alvin Herring said in greeting the audience at the 2016 Festival of Faiths. Sawubona is the most common greeting in the Zulu tribe, and it means “I see you.” In his introduction to the session, Rev. Herring centers his remarks on this word and wonders what the result would be if it was more than just a greeting — “What if that was a philosophy?” He goes on to say, “If I am to love the people, if I am to serve the people, I must first be able to see them.”
